At a local level within Burnaby Hospital, Shelley has been actively engaged in variety of committees including the Medical Advisory Committee, Board of Directors, Hospital Foundation Board and Education to name a few. Within BCMA, she has also contributed to the Board of Directors and Female Participation Committees. Shelley has undertaken many leadership roles including President and Secretary-General of MWIA; President of the Federation of Medical Women of Canada; Chair of Committee to Encourage Female Participation in the BCMA; Member of Planning Committee and Emcee for Canadian Medical Association Leadership Workshop for Women In Medicine. Her advocacy roles have included her coordination of MWIA’s Project to Develop a Training Manual for Gender Mainstreaming in Health and involvement in Train the Trainer Workshops for Gender Mainstreaming in Health. Shelley was Coordinator of Medical Women’s International Association Project to Develop a Training Manual for Physicians on Adolescent Sexuality and has facilitated workshops using this manual. In 2002, she was awarded the British Columbia Medical Association Bachop Gold Medal for Excellence in Medicine. She has Honorary Memberships for the Society of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists of Canada, the Medical Women’s Federation of The United Kingdom and the MWIA. Shelley lives with her supportive husband and has two adult sons.

Dr Shelley Nan Ross graduated from the University of Alberta, Canada in 1974. She is a full service family physician with over 30 years experience, with previous appointments as Chief and Vice-Chief roles at the Burnaby Hospital and St Michael’s Long Term Care. Shelley has a special interest in Obstetric care which comprises half of her practice. She is involved in a variety of committees and working groups including the Task Force on Nausea and Vomiting in Pregnancy, Maternity Care Enhancement, Prenatal Screening and Diagnostic Testing for Chromosomal and congenital Anomalies and various other committees relating to Perinatal care.
