The UNIFEM Australia Young Women's Leadership Forum aims to improve the capacity of young women by providing them with opportunities to learn about and become involved in women's issues on a local, national and global scale.

UNIFEM Australia, the Australian National Committee of the United Nations Development Fund for Women, is looking for passionate young women from accross Australia and the Pacific to participate in a forum that will develop their skills and confidence to become architects of change. The Forum seeks to empower, engage and educate young women to contribute to meaningful change in gender issues.

About the Leadership Forum:

The Forum is a three day conference involving up to 150 young women from accross Australia. Featuring various inspiring keynote speakers and workshop leaders, the Young Women's Leadership Forum will focus on the key UNIFEM issues of women's economic and social development, violence against women, and women and HIV/AIDS. Participants will learn how to contribute to meaningful change in these areas by rotating through a number of workshops on political advocacy, corporate lobbying, media and communications training and public awarness raising.

Who should attend?:

Young women who are interested in developing their leadership skills and practical know-how to make change within their community should attend. They should have:

•    An interest in social justice and women's issues.
•    Experience and involvement in the community service sector; and
•    The motivation to help their own local communities

•    To gain insight into gender and development issues within Australia and the Pacific, including the work, successes and current challenges of UNIFEM Australia;

How much does the program cost?

The UNIFEM Young Women's Leadership Forum is made possible through a Federal Government grant to UNIFEM Australia. Registration (including lunch, morning and afternoon tea and all materials) is free but participants much cover their own travel and accommodation expenses. However, some travel and accommodation grants are available and we have plenty of information about community organisations who may sponsor you to attend. With the additional support of AusAID, we will be offering travel scholarships to at least 20 participants from the Pacific.
