The Australian Federation of Medical Women congratulates the Australian men and women who have been recognized in the 2009 Queens Birthday Honours. The medical women recognised are:

Dr Margaret Jessie BAIKIE, AM
Howrah Tas
For service to the community of Hobart through refugee resettlement programs, and to medicine.

Dr Helen Margaret CREASEY, AM
Northwood NSW
For service to medicine as a geriatrician and neurologist and through advisory roles with professional and community organisations.

Dr Marguerette Joyce HILL, AM
Beijing, China.
For service to international humanitarian aid in China through the provision of medical and foster care for children with disabilities.

Associate Professor Lynne PRESSLEY, AM
Manly NSW
For service to medicine, particularly cardiology, as a clinician, teacher and mentor, and to the community through the Heart Foundation.

Dr Laila Leah ROTSTEIN, AM
Melbourne Vic
For service to medicine as an clinician, educator and mentor.

Did you know?

An article in The Age newspaper by Farah Farouque reports that women are trailing behind in numbers in the Order of Australia numbers, with 391 men recognized compared with 167 women. Of 924 nominations considered, 657 were men and 267 were women. The Australian Federation of Medical Women would like to recognize and honour the outstanding achievements of Australian medical women and encourages its members to nominate suitable women for these and other awards.
